On August 11, 2008, the school became an independent high school, starting a new chapter from its heritage as a parochial school started in 1922. Management and operations became completely self-governing under a newly installed Board of Trustees and Management. As a non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) charitable corporation, BG is recognized by the state of Pennsylvania and the IRS as an independent charitable entity. The Board of Trustees is responsible for school governance of Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School. Their duties include hiring of a chief executive officer, long-term planning, policy development, financing, capital improvements, public relations and marketing, development, alumni relations, and budgetary management.

As the leading private junior high and high school in the region, BG attracts families from around the Blair County, PA region as well as internationally. A diverse group of students of all faiths, and no faith tradition, are welcomed and comfortable at BG. In keeping with our Catholic heritage, the school has established a “Respect Policy,” which describes how we strive to connect through love and respect, regardless of differences.

The Board of Trustees is a self-perpetuating Board with rotating term limits to ensure fresh creative thinking and energy are available. Board members are selected based on their educational and business expertise.
